5/20/2019: Coast Guard gives three-day LNG training to Panama Canal Authority

Staff with the Liquefied Gas Carrier National Center of Expertise (LGC NCOE) delivered training May 7-10, 2019, on all aspects of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to representatives from the Panama Canal Authority and Panama Maritime Authority, and first responders. LGC NCOE staff covered a wide array of topics pertinent to the transportation of LNG to include the chemical and physical properties of LNG, LNG gas carriers, LNG terminals, and the use of LNG as a marine fuel.

Senior Coast Guard leaders and liquefied-gas-industry experts from around the country recently came together in Houston to discuss ways the maritime community can prepare for the increased use of liquefied gases, and gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies each party faces as they adapt to the continued growth of this multi-billion dollar industry in the maritime domain.


9/7/2018: LGC NCOE publishes latest issue of ‘The Gas Gauge’ newsletter

The Coast Guard’s Liquefied Gas Carrier National Center of Expertise published its 2018 Summer edition of The Gas Gauge, a newsletter to share Coast Guard involvement and regulatory updates about the liquefied gas industry.


8/17/2018: Liquefied Gas Carrier NCOE delivers training to Cheniere, Sector Corpus Christi

The Liquefied Gas Carrier National Center of Expertise gives LNG training to Cheniere’s LNG PICs and local Coast Guardsmen in Corpus Christi.


3/12/2018: Liquefied Gas Carrier NCOE delivers training to LGC class society surveyors

The training afforded numerous opportunities for open dialogue between local Coast Guard marine inspectors and class surveyors to raise awareness of key safety issues, critical equipment components, and common deficiencies found onboard liquefied gas vessels.


1/25/2018: Liquefied Gas Carrier NCOE delivers training in Panama

The training covered the chemical and physical properties of LNG, to include flammability, lower explosive limit, compression, cryogenic characteristics, and the general arrangement of LNG Carriers and their safety systems and cargo operations.


12/11/2017: Recap of 3rd Annual Liquefied Gas Senior Executive Forum

Senior Coast Guard leaders and liquefied-gas-industry experts from around the country came together Dec. 6-7, 2017, in Houston, Texas to prepare for the increased use of liquefied gases throughout the maritime community and gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies each party faces as they adapt to the rapid growth of this multi-billion dollar industry.

This year’s issue is divided into seven major sections and touches on topics like: LGC NCOE semi-annual updates, regulatory resources available for Coast Guard and the maritime community, training tips, LGC NCOE services, and more.


2/1/2017: Recap of LGC NCOE presentation at the Passenger Ship Safety Conference

The Coast Guard’s Office of Design & Engineering Standards (CG-ENG) and Office of Search and Rescue (CG-SAR), Cruise Ship and Liquefied Gas Carrier National Center of Expertise (LGC NCOE), and the 7th Coast Guard District recently attended the TDN UK Passenger Ship Safety conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
