10/21/2016: Update to requirements for vessels with registry endorsements or foreign-flagged vessels that perform certain aquaculture support operations

The Coast Guard announces that it has received approval from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for an information collection request associated with the Requirements for Vessels with Registry Endorsements or Foreign-Flagged Vessels that Perform Certain Aquaculture Support Operations final rule we published in the Federal Register on September 15, 2016.


9/15/2016: Requirements for vessels with registry endorsements or foreign-flagged vessels that perform certain aquaculture support operations

The Coast Guard promulgated a final rule amending 46 CFR subchapter I — Cargo and Miscellaneous Vessels.


7/22/2016: Final Rule – Harmonization of Standards for Fire Protection, Detection and Extinguishing Equipment.

The Coast Guard published a final rule on the Harmonization of Standards for Fire Protection, Detection and Extinguishing Equipment. This rule is the fifth installment of the Coast Guard’s effort to update its regulations to reflect advances in technology and to harmonize its regulations with national and international consensus standards. These changes should afford greater safety while giving the marine industry clearer direction, more flexibility, and more cost-effective fire protection.


4/7/2016: Vessel requirements for Notices of Arrival and Departure and Automatic Identification System information collection

The Coast Guard published a final rule announcing today (April 7, 2016) as the effective date for the collection-of-information associated with automatic identification system requirements from a final rule published on January 30, 2015.


3/31/2016: Final Rule – Tonnage Regulations

The Coast Guard amended its tonnage regulations to implement amendments to the tonnage measurement law made by the 2010 Coast Guard Authorization Act, codify principal technical interpretations, and incorporate administrative, non-substantive clarifications and updates.

1/21/2016: Offshore supply vessels, towing vessel and barge engine rating watches

The Coast Guard published a direct and final rule to the Federal Register to amend merchant regulations to allow oilers, serving on certain vessels, to be divided into at least two watches.

The Coast Guard received approval for an information collection request associated with ballast water management reporting and recordkeeping requirements in a final rule published on November 24, 2015.


11/24/2015: Ballast water management reporting and record keeping

The Coast Guard published a final rule that amends ballast water management reporting and recordkeeping requirements. This reduces the administrative burden on the regulated population while still allowing the Coast Guard to analyze and understand ballast water management practices.
