3/15/2018: Subchapter M regulations and marine firefighting requirements – A discussion from two perspectives

The Coast Guard will begin enforcing Subchapter M towing vessel regulations July 20, 2018, and it is important for tank and non-tank vessel owners and operators as well as towing vessel owners and operators to understand how Subchapter M may affect a towing vessel’s ability to be used as a resource provider in a Vessel Response Plan. To help our readers navigate this subject, Maritime Commons is publishing two perspectives in one post. 12/16/2016: MSIB – Revisions to FAQs for 2016 National Preparedness for Response Exercise Program

The Coast Guard published Marine Safety Information Bulletin (MSIB) 016-16 to announce that frequently asked questions (FAQs) will no longer be distributed via MSIB. This comes as a follow up to MER MSIB 12‐16, which published answers regarding the 2016 National Preparedness for Response Exercise Program (NPREP) guidelines as they pertain to Salvage and Marine Fire Fighting (SMFF) exercises and Government Initiated Unannounced Exercises (GIUEs).

The Coast Guard published a final rule updating regulations to harmonize U.S. regulations with international conventions regarding oil pollution.

The Coast Guard updated the most recently accepted version of the Salvage and Marine Firefighting core geographic specific appendix.
