11/20/2018: Towing Safety Advisory Committee teleconference scheduled

The Coast Guard announced in the Federal Register that the Towing Safety Advisory Committee will meet via teleconference Dec. 5, 2018, to discuss the three current tasks assigned to the committee. This teleconference will be open to the public.


4/4/2018: Summary of recent Towing Safety Advisory Committee meeting

The Towing Safety Advisory Committee held its spring public meeting March 20-21 in Charleston, South Carolina. The Committee swore in new members, deliberated on the current tasks, and received public comments.


3/29/2018: Reminder – application period for Towing Safety Advisory Committee membership open until April 10

The Coast Guard will consider applications for five positions that will be vacant Sept. 30, 2018: Two positions representing the barge and towing industry, reflecting a regional geographical balance; one position representing the offshore mineral and oil supply vessel industry; one position representing shippers; and one position drawn from the general public to serve as a Special Government Employee. To be eligible, applicants should have particular expertise, knowledge, and experience regarding shallow-draft inland, coastal waterway, and offshore, navigation and towing safety.

2/12/2018: Towing Safety Advisory Committee vacancies

The Coast Guard is seeking applications for five positions on the Towing Safety Advisory Committee. This Committee advises the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security on matters relating to the shallow-draft inland and coastal waterway navigation and towing safety.

7/14/2017: Coast Guard seeks assistance from five federal advisory committees on regulatory evaluations

The Coast Guard announced in the Federal Register that it is issuing new tasking to five federal advisory committees to help the agency identify existing regulations, guidance, and collections of information (that fall within the scope of each committee’s charter) for possible repeal, replacement, or modification.


3/15/2017: Towing Safety Advisory Committee meeting in April

Committee will meet April 11-12, 2017 in Memphis.

Policy letters provide clarity regarding the issuance of certificates of compliance and tankerman person-in-charge endorsements.
