5/9/2018: Date set for formal public hearing for Bouchard No. 255 Tank Barge

The hearing will convene at Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston July 16-27, 2018, to consider evidence related to the explosion, fire, and subsequent loss of life that occurred onboard the Bouchard No. 255 Tank Barge off the coast of Texas in 2017.


4/18/2018: Reminder – Changes to marine casualty reporting property damage thresholds now in effect

This post provides links to updated forms CG-2692 and CG-2692B, which have both been revised to account for the amended marine casualty property damage thresholds published in a Final Rule March 19, 2018. The new thresholds are effective today.


3/19/2018: Updated marine casualty reporting property damage thresholds Final Rule published

This final rule changes the reportable marine casualty property damage threshold amount from $25,000 to $75,000. This final rule also changes the serious marine incident property damage threshold from $100,000 to $200,000.

The Coast Guard seeks comment on the approval of a revision to a currently approved collection for marine casualty information and periodic chemical drug and alcohol testing of commercial vessel personnel.


7/24/2015: New NVIC published – Part 4 Marine Casualty Reporting Procedures Guide with Associated Standard Interpretations

The Coast Guard published Navigation and Vessel Circular 01-15 to clarify terminology used in the reporting regulation, draw attention to additional regulatory citations related to reporting and provide detailed regulatory interpretations to assist all involved parties in the marine casualty reporting and investigation process.
