11/28/2017: New policy letter available regarding issuance and acceptance of electronic certificates

This policy letter authorizes and states the conditions under which Authorized Classification Societies and Recognized Organizations may issue electronic certificates to U.S. flag vessels as well as the conditions under which they will be accepted by the Coast Guard for foreign vessels subject to Port State Control Exams in the United States. Nothing in this policy letter requires a vessel owner, operator, ACS or RO to request or issue electronic certificates.


11/3/2017: Coast Guard, class societies meet for 2nd annual summit on U.S. Flag State program

Rear Adm. John Nadeau and senior staff met with representatives from each of the Authorized Classification Societies (ACS) to share relevant experiences with the goal of continual improvement of the U.S. Flag State program.


11/9/2016: Coast Guard Authorized Classification Society (ACS) Summit

On Nov. 7, 2016, Rear Adm. Paul Thomas, assistant commandant for Prevention Policy, and senior staff met with representatives from each of the Authorized Classification Societies (ACS) to discuss statutory surveys and audits performed on behalf of the U. S. Coast Guard.
